Graduate School

So graduate school is...hard. Not to say that I am not enjoying it, it is just a lot of work, which is to be expected. I feel overwhelmed! I sometimes think I would rather be at my old job so that way I could at least be making more money but then I think about why I decided to go to graduate school instead of staying at home and working. I want to make a difference! I want to solve problems and to make even a small change in the world. I know with everything going on with the current administration in regards to math and science it may be harder to make an impact but even a small change can matter, right? I feel that maybe if I can help even in just a small way that is something. I still feel like more women should go into higher education in the STEM fields, and I hope to maybe someday inspire a young woman to do this! I hope to be able to be a mentor to someone someday. Anyway, back to my finite differences and PDE's homework, because it certainly won't do itself! :)

Something cool!

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/speaking-of-science/wp/2017/03/01/everything-is-awesome-for-the-women-of-nasa-lego-set/?tid=sm_fb&utm_term=.b09a0c5bb6b7
Finally something cool in the news! A women of NASA lego set! How cool is that? I am definitely going to go buy them. This is something inspirational for little girls, and for girls of all ages really. I am so happy to see this. I wish they had made them sooner, but hey, better late than never!

Too Much!

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/feb/28/tibet-womens-soccer-visas-denied

This is too much! Why is the current administration messing with everything near and dear to my heart? Soccer, science, women's right, hell, people's rights in general! I can't believe that these Tibetan women who were supposed to come play at a soccer tournament were denied visas! No wonder they don't want the Unites States to bid on the 2026 World Cup any longer. I don't even know what to say anymore about some of the things that have been happening. I have to admit that being a minority, a woman, and a mathematician is scary during this time. I never thought I would be feeling like this, especially in this day and age. All I can say is we cannot stay silent! We must be proactive and do whatever we can to stop the things that are happening. There are so many ways to help: marching in protests, volunteering for organizations, donating to causes. The possibilities to do something are endless. I for one am really looking forward to the March for Science to be held on April 22. I will be there! I hope you will too!
